Organisations and services

76.0% of these information points were left out or changed (37 points in Urdu practice).

Example from our dialogue Angina Diagnosis and Cardiac Referral · segment 5

I'll refer you to a cardiologist and book a stress test at Wollongong Hospital. If chest pain doesn't ease within five minutes after using the spray, call triple zero.

Detail to keep: stress test booked at Wollongong Hospital

Note from the model answer: The condition is pain NOT easing within five minutes after the spray; keep the negation and the number, and render triple zero as the Australian emergency number.

How not to miss it: Say the organisation's name as it is (Centrelink, Fair Work Ombudsman, myGov) instead of a vague word like the office or the government.

Example from our dialogue Acute Infective Conjunctivitis Consultation · segment 1

Mr Rehman, when did you first notice the redness, itching and swelling in your right eye starting?

Detail to keep: addressed as Mr Rehman

Model interpretation:

Note from the model answer: Three symptoms are listed; candidates often drop 'swelling' or forget it is the right eye.

How not to miss it: Keep the title and surname exactly as the speaker used them; if a name is spelt out, keep the spelling.

Conditions

Example from our dialogue Acute Infective Conjunctivitis Consultation · segment 7

I'll prescribe antibiotic eye drops, four times daily for one week. Please stay off work for three days unless your symptoms improve sooner.

Detail to keep: unless symptoms improve sooner

Model interpretation:

Note from the model answer: Three numbers (4 times, 1 week, 3 days) plus the 'unless improve sooner' condition; mixing up the week and the three days is the classic slip.

How not to miss it: Keep the if or unless part attached to the action it controls. Do not turn a condition into a plain statement.

Example from our dialogue Acute Infective Conjunctivitis Consultation · segment 2

Detail to keep: eyelids stuck together on waking in the morning

Model interpretation: Doctor, my eye has been red since two days ago and it's very itchy, and when I get up in the morning my eyelids are stuck together.

Note from the model answer: Keep 'two days', not 'a few days'; the stuck eyelids on waking is a separate detail, not a repeat of the itching.

How not to miss it: Note day, date and time as one block and keep them as said: next Monday stays next Monday, in two weeks is not soon.

Example from our dialogue Angina Diagnosis and Cardiac Referral · segment 7

The spray may cause mild headache or dizziness. Please sit down before using it, and don't drive immediately afterwards.

Detail to keep: sit down before using the spray

Model interpretation:

Note from the model answer: 'Mild' headache and 'immediately' afterwards are easy to drop; both change the advice.

How not to miss it: Keep before, after, until and then, and give the steps in the order the speaker gave them.
