Malayalam practice topics and interpretation examples
Language rules for Malayalam CCL
The Malayalam entry refers to General Policies A and B and allows regional dialects understood by an average Malayalee in Kerala. Limited English borrowing is acceptable when conventional and understood by most Malayalees in Kerala, especially in scientific, medical or technical contexts, or when an accurate translation is unavailable. An available, commonly used Malayalam word is preferred.
Using English or Hindi numerals when speaking Malayalam is penalised. Figures given in millions in English must be converted to lakhs or crores in Malayalam, and the conversion must also be made in the reverse direction.

Questions people ask
Which variety of Malayalam should I use in the CCL test?
Regional dialects of Kerala are accepted if an average Malayalee living in Kerala would understand them. Limited English is appropriate where it is part of the language's norms, but a commonly used Malayalam word is preferred where one exists. English or Hindi numerals are penalised, and millions must be converted to lakhs or crores.
How often is the Malayalam CCL test held?
NAATI tests high-demand languages every month and the others at least 4 times a year, and bookings close 1 week before each session. As of 22 Oct 2026, 1:00 pm (Sydney time), NAATI lists 11 upcoming Malayalam sessions, 9 of them with seats; the next one with seats is Wed 16 Dec 2026. The current list is at naaticcl.com/naati-ccl-test-dates/malayalam: we check it every 2 hours, and NAATI updates its own list about once a day.
Is the NAATI CCL test available in Malayalam?
Yes. Malayalam is one of the languages NAATI tests for the CCL. Passing can support a claim for 5 points towards your skilled migration score. We currently publish 112 Malayalam practice dialogues.
Do I need a NAATI CCL Malayalam coaching class?
Not necessarily. naaticcl.com is a self-practice site, not a coaching class: you work through the 112 Malayalam dialogues and 56 mock tests on your own, at exam speed, and the AI marks each segment for what you kept, left out, changed or added. A class adds a teacher who listens and corrects you; if you want one, see the Malayalam CCL teachers and classes list on naaticcl.com. The score here is our estimate, not a NAATI result.
How many marks do I need to pass?
63 out of 90, and at least 29 on each of the two dialogues. Marks come off for information you leave out, add, or change, and for language quality. We mark against the same published categories; the score is our own model's estimate, not a NAATI result.
How much does the real Malayalam CCL test cost?
AUD $814 (NAATI fees for 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027), and you do not know the result until NAATI finalises it. That is the whole reason this site exists: know where you stand before you pay to sit it.
Can I wear headphones in the test?
No — no headsets, headphones or earphones of any kind. You use the computer's speakers and microphone. Older guides that tell you to wear wired headphones will get you caught out on the day. Only one screen is allowed at any time; your phone or tablet acts as the second camera.
Can I take notes?
Yes, with a pen and loose sheets of paper only. No typing of notes, and no electronic resources — dictionaries, web browsing, live captions or transcription — during the test.
What if I miss something — can I hear a segment again?
Yes. One repeated segment per dialogue is allowed without penalty. Further repeats incur mark deductions.
How long until I get my result, and how long is it valid?
NAATI's candidate instructions say results come by email within 4–6 weeks; they are issued individually as they are finalised, so two people who sat on the same day can hear back on different days. The result is valid for five years from the date of issue (three years if issued before 9 August 2022) and cannot be extended. You can apply to sit again six months before expiry, according to NAATI’s FAQ.
Is CCL still worth 5 migration points in Malayalam?
Yes. Credentialed Community Language points remain in the 189, 190 and 491 points tests. CCL is not a professional interpreting credential — passing it does not qualify you to work as an interpreter.
