Hear a real one

From Acute Infective Conjunctivitis in a Childcare Worker · Health · the same audio you get when you practise.

Nurse

What's been bothering your eyes lately, and when exactly did the redness and discharge first start troubling you this week?

Patient

Silmäni ovat olleet punaiset ja rähmäiset jo kaksi päivää. Aamulla silmäluomet ovat melkein liimautuneet kiinni, ja ne kutisevat todella paljon.

Nurse

Is one eye affected, or both eyes now? Are you experiencing any pain, blurred vision, or sensitivity to light today?

Patient

Aluksi vain oikea silmä oli punainen, mutta nyt myös vasen silmä on tulehtunut. Näkö ei ole sumentunut, mutta valo häikäisee vähän.

These come up constantly and rarely have a clean Finnish equivalent. Each links to how to render it, and the trap to avoid.

Questions people ask

Is the NAATI CCL test available in Finnish?

Yes. Finnish is one of the languages NAATI tests for the CCL. Passing adds 5 points to your skilled migration score. We currently publish 39 Finnish practice dialogues.

How many marks do I need to pass?

63 out of 90, and at least 29 on each of the two dialogues. Marks come off for information you leave out, add, or change, and for language quality. We mark against the same published categories; the score is our own model's estimate, not a NAATI result.

How much does the real Finnish CCL test cost?

AUD $814 (NAATI fees for 1 July 2026 – 30 June 2027), and you do not know the result until NAATI finalises it. That is the whole reason this site exists: know where you stand before you pay to sit it.

Can I wear headphones in the test?

No — no headsets, headphones or earphones of any kind. You use the computer's speakers and microphone. Older guides that tell you to wear wired headphones will get you caught out on the day. Only one screen is allowed at any time; your phone or tablet acts as the second camera.

Can I take notes?

Yes, with a pen and loose sheets of paper only. No typing of notes, and no electronic resources — dictionaries, web browsing, live captions or transcription — during the test.

What if I miss something — can I hear a segment again?

Yes, but it costs you. Each dialogue gives one free replay; beyond that you lose marks. Save it for the longest, most information-dense segment — or spend it when you have missed a number, a name, or a negation, because those cost more.

How long until I get my result, and how long is it valid?

NAATI's candidate instructions say results come by email within 4–6 weeks; they are issued individually as they are finalised, so two people who sat on the same day can hear back on different days. The result is valid for five years from the date of issue (three years if issued before 9 August 2022) and the expiry cannot be extended.

Is CCL still worth 5 migration points in Finnish?

Yes. Credentialed Community Language points remain in the 189, 190 and 491 points tests. CCL is not a professional interpreting credential — passing it does not qualify you to work as an interpreter.
