Thanks for coming in, Mr. Laine. Can you tell me exactly what happened outside the Grand Hotel in Newcastle last Saturday night, from the very beginning?
Hän löi minua ensin nyrkillä kasvoihin baarin ovella, joten minä vain työnsin häntä kerran, jotta hän ei löisi uudelleen.
Did you seek medical attention afterwards? Was a doctor's report taken within twenty-four hours, and were there any witnesses nearby who saw what occurred?
Kyllä, menin heti Newcastlen sairaalaan samana iltana. Lääkäri kirjoitti raportin, ja minulla oli mustelma poskessa sekä turvonnut huuli. Kolme ihmistä näki koko tilanteen.
Self-defence only applies if the force you used was reasonable and proportionate. If you could have safely walked away instead, that fact matters too.
Entä jos en pystynyt pakenemaan, koska hän seisoi ovella eikä päästänyt minua ulos ollenkaan?
That's relevant information. The court will carefully consider whether escape was genuinely possible. We'll also need any witness statements from that evening.
Voiko minulle silti jäädä rikosrekisteri, vaikka toimin vain itsepuolustukseksi enkä aloittanut tappelua?
Not necessarily. If the magistrate accepts self-defence, the charges may be withdrawn before the hearing at Newcastle Local Court even begins.
Milloin oikeudenkäynti pidetään, ja tarvitseeko minun tuoda joku todistaja mukanani?
Your hearing is listed for the ninth of March at ten o'clock. Please bring any witnesses, and we'll lodge your statement beforehand.
Kiitos paljon, tämä helpotti oloani suuresti. Otan yhteyttä heti, jos löydän lisää todistajia ennen maaliskuuta.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
- magistrateKäännä 'käräjätuomari' tai 'alioikeuden tuomari'.
- local courtKäännä 'paikallinen käräjäoikeus' tai selitä 'alempi oikeusaste, joka käsittelee pienempiä asioita'.

Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The free daily dialogue on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.

How the test works
Practice dialogue written to the CCL specification (two speakers, segments of 35 words or fewer, about 300 words). It is a practice text, not a NAATI test paper, and the AI score is this site's estimate, not a NAATI result. All Finnish dialogues · All languages
