Signing Up Her Son at the Junior Football Club
Club registrar (speaking English) and Parent (speaking Malayalam) talk through “Signing Up Her Son at the Junior Football Club”. You interpret both ways — English into Malayalam, and Malayalam into English — one segment at a time, exactly as in the CCL test.

Under each segment: a model interpretation, the information points an examiner checks, and the easiest thing to miss. Try the segment yourself first, then open it. The model is one good way to say it; other wordings that keep every point score just as well.
Welcome to Cabramatta Juniors sign-up night. Registration is online through Football NSW, so I'll help you fill it in. What's your child's full name and age?
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- welcome to Cabramatta Juniors sign-up night
- registration is online through Football NSW
- I'll help you fill it in
- question: child's full name and age
Easy to miss: Keep both 'online' and 'Football NSW'. Ask for the child's full name and age as a question.
Model answer and marking points
My son's name is Arun Nair. He's nine years old. He's in Year 4 at the moment, and he really loves football.
What an examiner checks here:
- son's name is Arun Nair
- nine years old
- currently in Year 4 (fourth class)
- he loves football very much
Easy to miss: Don't mix up age nine with Year 4, and keep 'really' for വലിയ ഇഷ്ടം.
Great. He'll play in the under-tens. Does Arun have any medical conditions, like asthma or allergies, that the coach should know about?
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- he'll play in the under-tens
- question: any medical conditions
- examples: asthma or allergies
- that the coach should know about
Easy to miss: 'Under-tens' is an age group. Don't render it as 'under ten players' or drop it.
Model answer and marking points
He has asthma, sir. He gets a cough when it's dusty and when he runs. He uses an inhaler. I know I need to tell the coach about it.
What an examiner checks here:
- he has asthma
- coughs when it's dusty
- coughs when running
- uses an inhaler
- I know the coach must be told
Easy to miss: Keep both triggers, dust and running, not just one.
Thanks, I've noted that. Training is Thursdays at five o'clock. If Arun forgets his inhaler, he can't train, so please make sure it's always in his bag.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- I've noted it
- training Thursdays at 5 o'clock
- if he forgets inhaler, he can't train
- make sure it's always in his bag
Easy to miss: Keep the condition and negation: if he forgets the inhaler he CANNOT train.
Model answer and marking points
I'll never send him without his inhaler, sir. I'll check his bag every time. And also, do all the coaches have a Working with Children Check?
What an examiner checks here:
- will never send him without the inhaler
- will check the bag every time
- question: do all coaches have a Working with Children Check
Easy to miss: The final sentence is a question about ALL coaches. Keep it as a question.
Yes, every coach and volunteer holds a current Working with Children Check. Now, the registration fee is paid online at the end of the form.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- yes
- every coach AND volunteer
- holds a current Working with Children Check
- registration fee paid online at the end of the form
Easy to miss: Don't drop 'volunteers' or 'current'.
Model answer and marking points
Okay, that's a relief to hear. Can I use my husband's card to pay the fee online, sir?
What an examiner checks here:
- relieved to hear that
- question: can I use my husband's card
- to pay the fee online
Easy to miss: It's the husband's card, not her own. Keep it as a question.
Yes, you can use your husband's card, as long as the payment page accepts it. Once it goes through, you'll get a confirmation message. Show it to the coach on Thursday.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- yes, husband's card can be used
- condition: as long as the payment page accepts it
- once it goes through, a confirmation message
- show it to the coach on Thursday
Easy to miss: Keep the condition 'as long as the payment page accepts it'.
Model answer and marking points
Good. Do I need to buy boots and a jersey, sir? His old boots have got too small for him.
What an examiner checks here:
- question: should I buy boots and a jersey
- his old boots are now too small
Easy to miss: Keep both items, boots AND jersey, in the question.
The club provides the jersey. Boots and shin pads you buy yourself, but a second-hand pair is fine. Ask at the canteen; we keep a swap box.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- club provides the jersey
- boots and shin pads bought by parent
- second-hand is fine
- ask at the canteen
- there is a swap box
Easy to miss: Don't forget the shin pads. Only the jersey is provided.
Model answer and marking points
That's a big help, sir. I'll bring him on Thursday. I'll ask at the canteen then whether there are any second-hand boots. Thank you.
What an examiner checks here:
- that's a big help
- will bring him on Thursday
- will ask at the canteen then about old boots
- thank you
Easy to miss: Keep 'Thursday' and that she'll ask at the canteen at that time.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
- Working with Children Check'Working with Children Check' എന്ന് ഇംഗ്ലീഷിൽ തന്നെ പറയുക, ആവശ്യമെങ്കിൽ 'കുട്ടികളുമായി ജോലി ചെയ്യാനുള്ള പശ്ചാത്തല പരിശോധന/അനുമതി' എന്ന് ഒരു ചെറിയ വിശദീകരണം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർക്കാം.
Practise it
Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The practice room on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.
