Checking Disputed Hours Against Approved Timesheets

I've brought up the Auburn warehouse records. Let's compare your payslip code with the approved timesheets for the pay period ending 11 October.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- Auburn warehouse records opened
- Compare payslip code with approved timesheets
- Pay period ending 11 October
Easy to miss: 11 October is the end of the pay period, not necessarily the payment date.
Model answer and marking points
Yes, my payslip shows one thousand four hundred and fifty dollars, but by my calculations, I'm short six hours' pay. I don't understand what this code means.
What an examiner checks here:
- Payslip shows $1450
- According to own calculations, short six hours' pay
- Does not understand the code
Easy to miss: The shortfall is six hours of pay, not six dollars.

Interpret it aloud now →Your payslip shows a recorded payment of $1450. Which shifts account for the six disputed hours, and do those hours appear on the approved timesheets?
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- Payslip records a payment of $1450
- Six hours are disputed
- question: Which shifts account for those six hours?
- question: Do those hours appear on the approved timesheets?
Easy to miss: Keep both questions, including whether the timesheets are approved.
Model answer and marking points
It's three hours on Wednesday and three on Thursday. I stayed late on both days. Our supervisor has approved those hours, and they also appear on the timesheets.
What an examiner checks here:
- Three hours on Wednesday
- Three hours on Thursday
- Stayed late on both days
- Supervisor approved those hours
- Hours appear on the timesheets
Easy to miss: There are three hours on each day, making six hours in total.
The code beside those entries refers to an adjustment, but that alone doesn't explain the difference. I'll compare both approved timesheets with the payroll entry.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- Code beside those entries refers to an adjustment
- Code alone does not explain the difference
- Will compare both approved timesheets with the payroll entry
Easy to miss: An adjustment does not automatically mean a deduction.
Model answer and marking points
So does this code mean that money has been deducted from my pay? Or is the pay for those hours still outstanding?
What an examiner checks here:
- question: Does the code mean money was deducted from my pay?
- question: Is payment for those hours still outstanding?
- Asks about two possible explanations
Easy to miss: Both possibilities are questions, not confirmed facts.
The code alone can't tell us whether money was deducted or remains unpaid. These six hours are missing from this entry; I'll check for a separate payment.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- Code alone cannot establish whether money was deducted
- Code alone cannot establish whether money remains unpaid
- Six hours are missing from this entry
- Will check for a separate payment
Easy to miss: Missing hours in this entry do not yet prove that they were unpaid.
Model answer and marking points
All right, check that first so the same hours aren't counted twice. But could you give me a written explanation of why there was a difference? I need to keep it for my records.
What an examiner checks here:
- Check for the separate payment first
- Avoid counting the same hours twice
- question: Can you provide a written explanation of the difference?
- Needs the explanation for personal records
Easy to miss: Preserve the request for a written explanation, not just a verbal answer.
If no separate adjustment exists, I'll request a correction and give you a written explanation. Your original payslip and approved timesheets will support that request.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- Conditional on no separate adjustment existing
- Will request a correction
- Will provide a written explanation
- Original payslip will support the request
- Approved timesheets will support the request
Easy to miss: The correction request depends on there being no separate adjustment.
Model answer and marking points
I've brought copies of my payslip and both timesheets. You can keep them. When the checks are complete, please also explain what the code means and tell me what correction will be made to the record.
What an examiner checks here:
- Brought a copy of the payslip
- Brought copies of both timesheets
- Recipient may keep the copies
- Requests explanation of the code once checks are complete
- Requests details of what correction will be made to the record
Easy to miss: The documents offered are copies, and both timesheets are included.
Please leave the copies with me and keep your originals. Once the checks are complete, I'll explain the code and confirm whether we're correcting the record.
Model answer and marking points
What an examiner checks here:
- Leave copies with the speaker
- Keep the originals
- Explanation will follow completion of the checks
- Will explain the code
- Will confirm whether the record is being corrected
Easy to miss: The speaker will confirm whether a correction is being made, without promising one yet.
Model answer and marking points
All right, you keep these copies. I'll keep the original documents. Once I hear back from you, I'll compare your response with my records.
What an examiner checks here:
- Recipient keeps these copies
- Speaker keeps original documents
- Will wait for the recipient's response
- Will compare the response with personal records
Easy to miss: The comparison with personal records happens after the response is received.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.

Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The practice room on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.
