Hello, I'm the pre-admission nurse calling about your cataract surgery, which is scheduled at Westmead Hospital next Tuesday morning at nine o'clock sharp.

Yes, you'll need antibiotic eye drops in the operated eye four times a day, starting three days before your surgery date, without skipping any doses.

If your diabetes isn't well controlled, the surgeon may need to postpone the operation until your blood sugar levels stabilise properly, for your safety.

Yes, please avoid eating anything after midnight the night before surgery, though a small sip of water in the morning is completely fine.
