Thanks for coming in today, Mr Cheung. Before your gallbladder surgery next Thursday at Liverpool Hospital, I need to check a few important details with you.
That's understandable. First, are you currently taking any blood thinners, like aspirin or warfarin, on a regular basis?
You'll need to stop the aspirin seven days before surgery, unless your cardiologist says otherwise. Also, don't eat anything after midnight the night before.
You can have clear fluids like water until six o'clock on the morning of surgery, but nothing at all after that.
No, you can't drive for at least twenty-four hours after the anaesthetic wears off. You'll need a family member or friend to collect you from Liverpool Hospital.
Good. I'll go through the consent form with you now, and please let me know if you have any questions about the risks.
