Good afternoon, Mr Desai. I'm the pre-admission nurse coordinating your gallbladder surgery, which is scheduled for this Thursday at John Hunter Hospital.
Yes, you will receive a general anaesthesia for this procedure. You must not eat or drink anything for six hours before the operation begins.
Please do not take your metformin on the morning of surgery, but continue your blood pressure tablets with just a small sip of water.
Most patients stay in hospital overnight and are usually discharged quite quickly the next morning, provided there are no complications during recovery.
We will manage your pain carefully with medication, and you'll have a follow-up appointment in exactly two weeks to check your recovery progress.
No, you cannot drive yourself home afterwards. You'll definitely need a family member or friend to drive you home after the anaesthesia wears off.
