Thanks for coming in today. I'm the duty lawyer at Legal Aid NSW in Sydney, looking at your file about an Apprehended Violence Order against your husband.
Can you tell me exactly what happened last Tuesday night, and whether he threatened you or used any physical violence?
I will help you complete the application form today, and the police can also lodge one on your behalf if you prefer.
Yes, police often apply on a victim's behalf, so you wouldn't face your husband alone in court — there's support and a safe room. An interim order can protect you until the hearing.
If he breaches this order, he could be arrested immediately by police. He must not contact you, even through friends or family.
You don't have to leave your home unless you feel unsafe there. We can also refer you to a women's refuge nearby if needed.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
