Thanks for meeting me before your shift, Mr. Rajendran. I'm from the SDA and wanted to explain what union membership actually covers before you decide.

The fee is deducted fortnightly from your pay, similar to a small phone bill. It's not compulsory, but without membership you can't vote on enterprise agreement changes.

No employer can lawfully sack you or reduce your hours because you joined a union — that's protected under the Fair Work Act. Any retaliation should be reported straightaway.

Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
