Mrs. Tran, your glucose tolerance test is booked for Thursday at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. You'll need to fast for eight hours beforehand, so please plan your evening meal accordingly.

Yes, a normal dinner before midnight is fine. After that, please don't eat any food until the test starts the next morning.

You can drink plain water during the fast, but avoid coffee, tea, milk, or juice, since they can raise your blood sugar and affect the result.

Please arrive by eight o'clock, and the whole test takes about two hours, including three separate blood samples taken over that time.
