Mandarin housing vocabulary

These notes come from this language’s vocabulary list. Terms belong to this topic’s vocabulary category or occur in the dialogues above. Renderings are study aids.

Fair Trading

Bond

Lease agreement

Council rates

Public housing

Details to keep in your interpretation

These examples come from this topic’s practice answers. Compare the source, the detail to retain and the model interpretation.

Bathroom Mould and a Broken Exhaust Fan

Bathroom Mould and a Broken Exhaust Fan · segment 1

Thanks for letting me in, Mr Fang. This is just the routine inspection. Is there anything in the unit you'd like me to look at while I'm here?

Keep it as an open question to the tenant, not a statement that the inspector will look at everything.

Compare the model interpretation

Late-Night Noise from the Unit Above

Late-Night Noise from the Unit Above · segment 1

Mr Zhou, please have a seat. I understand you're having trouble with noise from the unit above. Can you tell me what happens, and how often?

Two questions at the end; keep both 'what happens' and 'how often' as questions.

Compare the model interpretation

Rental Bond Dispute

Rental Bond Dispute · segment 1

Good morning, welcome to Fair Trading. I understand you have a dispute with your agent about your rental bond. Could you tell me what happened?

Fair Trading is an agency name (公平交易署), not a description of 'fair dealing'.

Compare the model interpretation
