Mr Al-Khatib, the ophthalmologist has reviewed your scan and confirmed a cataract clouding the lens in your left eye, which is affecting your vision.
يعني الوضع خطير؟ هل لازم أعمل عملية، أو ممكن يتحسن الوضع من دون جراحة؟
The procedure is a day surgery at Sydney Eye Hospital, usually taking about twenty minutes under local anaesthetic, and you'll go home the same afternoon.
أنا خايف شوي من فكرة إنّي أكون واعي أثناء العملية، هل بحسّ بألم؟
You won't need a general anaesthetic unless there are complications; most patients stay fully awake, feel only slight pressure, and can return home quickly.
طيب، وبعد العملية، إمتى بقدر أرجع أسوق أو أرجع لشغلي؟
You can't drive for twenty-four hours, so arrange a lift home; you may return to light desk work after two days, but avoid heavy lifting for a week.

Medicare covers the surgery itself, but if you have private health insurance through funds like Bupa, it may reduce your waiting time considerably.

Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
