Talking About Emotional Distress
Counsellor (speaking English) and Client (speaking Mandarin) talk through “Talking About Emotional Distress”. You interpret both ways — English into Mandarin, and Mandarin into English — one segment at a time, exactly as in the CCL test.

Thank you for coming in today. Can you tell me how you have been feeling emotionally over the past two weeks, and what has been most difficult for you?
最近两个星期我心情很不好,经常无缘无故地哭,晚上也睡不着觉,最难受的是不知道该怎么办。
I'm sorry to hear that. Do these feelings happen every day, or only at certain times, such as when you're alone at night?
几乎每天都这样,尤其是晚上一个人的时候,会胡思乱想,觉得特别孤单无助。
Do you have any family or friends here in Sydney you can talk to, or organisations like Lifeline for support, if things feel too much?
我先生还在国内,这边没有亲人,朋友也不多,压力大的时候真的不知道该找谁说说。
That sounds very difficult. Have you ever had thoughts of hurting yourself, or do you feel unsafe at home, even for a moment?
没有,我不会伤害自己,就算再难受也没有那种念头,只是心里压力太大,喘不过气。
That's good to hear. I'd like to refer you to a psychologist; Medicare can cover up to ten sessions each year, at little or no cost to you.
谢谢医生,那转诊大概要等多久?我现在真的很需要有人帮忙。
If you agree, I can send the referral today. Most clinics can offer an appointment within one week if it's urgent, but not every clinic can guarantee that.
太好了,那就麻烦你尽快帮我转诊,谢谢你这么耐心地听我说这么多。
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
Practise it
Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The free daily dialogue on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.

How the test works
Practice dialogue written to the CCL specification (two speakers, segments of 35 words or fewer, about 300 words). It is a practice text, not a NAATI test paper, and the AI score is this site's estimate, not a NAATI result. All Mandarin dialogues · All languages
