Supporting a Patient Through Emotional Distress
GP (speaking English) and Patient (speaking Afrikaans) talk through “Supporting a Patient Through Emotional Distress”. You interpret both ways — English into Afrikaans, and Afrikaans into English — one segment at a time, exactly as in the CCL test.

Thanks for coming in today, Mr. van der Merwe. Over the past six weeks, how have your sleep, appetite, and general mood been affected?
I'm sorry you're going through this. Have you had any thoughts of harming yourself, or do you ever feel unsafe at home right now?
That's reassuring to hear, but please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 if things feel worse outside clinic hours. I'll also arrange a referral to a psychologist.
Dankie, dokter.
I'll set up a Mental Health Care Plan, which gives you subsidised sessions with a psychologist, unless you'd prefer to see someone privately instead.
Let's start with weekly sessions for the first four weeks, then we'll review together how you're coping before deciding on next steps.
Verstaan, dokter.
I can issue a medical certificate covering two weeks, unless your symptoms worsen and you need additional time off work.
Baie dankie, dokter.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
- lifelineSê net 'Lifeline' soos dit is, aangesien dit 'n eiename is.
- medical certificateSê 'mediese sertifikaat' — dit word direk so verstaan in Afrikaans.
Practise it
Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The free daily dialogue on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.

How the test works
Practice dialogue written to the CCL specification (two speakers, segments of 35 words or fewer, about 300 words). It is a practice text, not a NAATI test paper, and the AI score is this site's estimate, not a NAATI result. All Afrikaans dialogues · All languages
