Thanks for coming in, Mr. Nguyen. I've reviewed your claim for the knee reconstruction at Royal Melbourne Hospital, and I need to explain why it's been declined.
Under the Private Health Insurance Act, pre-existing conditions carry a mandatory twelve-month waiting period before any benefit can be paid, and you've only held cover for eight months.
You can lodge a written appeal with our claims review team, and they'll reassess it once your treating doctor confirms whether the condition existed before you joined.
There's no fixed turnaround time, but reviews typically take a few weeks if your doctor provides the medical report promptly.
In the meantime, you'll need to cover the surgery cost yourself, though extras cover may reimburse some of your physiotherapy sessions afterward.
Your extras policy allows twelve physiotherapy visits each calendar year, but that's separate from this hospital claim.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.

Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The free daily dialogue on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.
