Mrs. Kovačević, thank you for coming in - I've reviewed your CT scan from Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and I'd like to go through the results with you now.
Hvala doktore, jako sam nervozna. Molim vas, recite mi odmah - je li nešto ozbiljno?
The scan shows a four-centimetre tumour in the right lobe of your liver. This is consistent with hepatocellular carcinoma, a type of primary liver cancer.
Razumijem. Ali me najviše brine - je li se rak proširio na druge organe, na primjer na pluća ili limfne čvorove?
No, it hasn't spread. Your lungs, lymph nodes and the rest of your abdomen all appear clear on this scan - the cancer is currently confined to the liver.
Kakvo olakšanje! Zahvalna sam Bogu. Što to znači za liječenje - mogu li operirati tumor?
Surgery is possible if the tumour stays confined and your liver function remains strong. Otherwise, we'd consider a procedure called TACE, which blocks blood supply to the tumour.
Što je točno TACE? Je li to bolno ili opasno, i koliko dugo traje oporavak?
TACE isn't surgery - it's a day procedure using a catheter to deliver targeted chemotherapy. Most patients go home within twenty-four hours and recover within a week.

We'll need a blood test to check your liver function, then meet again in two weeks to decide together on the best treatment path.
