How many weeks pregnant are you now, and have you noticed any new symptoms or changes since your last antenatal visit?
Ik ben nu tweeëntwintig weken zwanger. De laatste tijd voel ik me vooral erg moe, maar verder gaat het eigenlijk best goed.
Good. At twenty-two weeks we usually arrange a glucose tolerance test to check for gestational diabetes. Has anyone in your family had diabetes?
Nee, niemand in mijn familie heeft diabetes, maar ik word soms wel wat duizelig na het eten, vooral 's ochtends.
That's reassuring. We'll book the test at Bendigo Health next Thursday morning; you'll need to fast for about ten hours beforehand, so please avoid a big dinner.
Oké, dat begrijp ik. Moet ik die ochtend ook stoppen met mijn ijzertabletten, of mag ik die gewoon met een beetje water innemen?
You can keep taking your iron tablets with a small sip of water; just avoid any food or sugary drinks until the blood test is finished.
Fijn om te horen. Ik maak me trouwens wel wat zorgen, want mijn moeder had bloedarmoede tijdens haar zwangerschap.
