Thanks for coming in today, Mrs. Lefèvre. Can you tell me when you first noticed the redness and discharge in Mia's eyes, and whether it's painful?
Ça a commencé il y a environ deux jours ; ses yeux étaient très rouges et collés le matin avec du pus jaune.
Has it affected both eyes or just one side, and has she had any pain, itching, or sensitivity to light?
Au début, c'était seulement l'œil gauche, mais maintenant les deux yeux piquent et elle dit qu'elle a un peu mal à la lumière.
This looks like infective conjunctivitis, an eye infection causing redness, swelling and sticky discharge; most cases clear up within about a week without needing antibiotic drops.
D'accord, mais combien de temps est-ce que ça va durer avant qu'elle puisse retourner à la crèche ?
She can go back to childcare once the discharge has completely stopped; for some children that's two days, for others closer to five, so there's no single fixed number.

If the discharge is still there, she can't return to childcare; please bring us written confirmation once her eyes look clear.

Encourage frequent handwashing, use separate towels and pillowcases at home, and you can buy saline eye wipes at Chemist Warehouse if needed.
