Congratulations on your baby's arrival. Today I'll explain the support services available through Centrelink and how to register your baby's birth. Do you have questions before we start?

You must register the birth with NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages within 60 days. Without this registration, you can't apply for a birth certificate or some payments.

The hospital usually gives you a birth registration statement. If you don't receive it, you can complete the form online through Service NSW instead.

You'll need to add your baby to your Medicare card separately. This can be done online, and it usually takes about three days to process.

If the father isn't listed, it won't stop Medicare registration, but you should update the birth certificate later for legal and immigration purposes.

You can manage most steps yourself online, but if you feel overwhelmed, a social worker at the hospital can guide you through each process.

Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
