Good morning, I'm your duty lawyer from Legal Aid NSW. I understand you've been charged with common assault. Your matter is listed at Parramatta Local Court next Tuesday.
ਜੀ, ਇਹ ਸਭ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ ਬਹਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਮੈਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੱਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁੱਕਿਆ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਧੱਕਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ।
Can you tell me exactly what happened that evening? Were there any witnesses present, and did you receive any injuries during the altercation with your neighbour?

Given there's a witness, you have two options: plead not guilty and go to hearing, or negotiate with police for lesser charges through your lawyer.
ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਨਾ ਮੰਨਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਕੇਸ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਚੱਲੇਗਾ? ਕੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਵਾਰ ਕੋਰਟ ਆਉਣਾ ਪਵੇਗਾ?
If you plead not guilty, the hearing could take around three months to be listed. You won't need to attend every mention, but you must attend the hearing.
ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਜੀ। ਕੀ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਹੁਣ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ?
Your bail condition states you must not contact or approach your neighbour directly or indirectly until the matter is finalised in court.
