Joining a Union at a Meat Processing Plant
Union Organiser (speaking English) and Worker (speaking Sinhala) talk through “Joining a Union at a Meat Processing Plant”. You interpret both ways — English into Sinhala, and Sinhala into English — one segment at a time, exactly as in the CCL test.

Thanks for coming in today. Which workplace are you currently based at, and what specifically made you start considering joining the union this month?
I understand. Our union negotiates workplace safety standards, represents members during disputes with management, and can also request a formal investigation into that incident.
Membership costs eight dollars fifty a week, which is taken directly from your pay automatically unless you specifically request manual payment instead.
Not at all—you can cancel your membership anytime in writing, with no minimum membership period required and absolutely no cancellation fee involved.
That would be illegal. The Fair Work Commission protects workers from adverse action for joining a union—dismissal on that basis is completely unlawful.
No obligation today at all. Just complete this short membership form, and you can submit it whenever you feel ready sometime this month.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
- fair work"Fair Work" යන නාමයම එලෙසම පවසන්න; අවශ්ය නම් "Fair Work නම් සේවා ස්ථාන අයිතිවාසිකම් ආයතනය" ලෙස පැහැදිලි කරන්න.
- fair work commissionනිසි නාමය එලෙසම ඉංග්රීසියෙන් තබා ගන්න - "Fair Work Commission".

Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The free daily dialogue on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.
