Good morning, I'm calling from NSW Fair Trading regarding your complaint. You mentioned you were overcharged for a car service. Can you tell me exactly what happened?
Did the mechanic give you a written quote before starting the repair, or was the price only agreed verbally?
Have you already paid the full amount, and did you ask the mechanic for an itemised invoice explaining the extra charges?
Under Australian Consumer Law, a business generally cannot charge significantly more than the quoted price without your agreement, unless unexpected work was genuinely required.
Please request an itemised invoice in writing today. If the mechanic refuses, Fair Trading can arrange mediation, usually within three business days.
If the overcharge isn't justified by extra work, you may be entitled to a partial refund. I'll send a formal letter to the business today.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
