Pre-Operative Consultation for Gallbladder Surgery
Pre-Admission Nurse (speaking English) and Patient (speaking Italian) talk through “Pre-Operative Consultation for Gallbladder Surgery”. You interpret both ways — English into Italian, and Italian into English — one segment at a time, exactly as in the CCL test.

Good afternoon, Mrs. Conti. I'm the pre-admission nurse at John Hunter Hospital. Your gallbladder surgery is scheduled for Thursday morning at seven-thirty. Do you have any questions before we start?
Buon pomeriggio. Sì, volevo sapere da quanto tempo prima devo smettere di mangiare e bere prima dell'intervento.
You must stop eating solid food six hours before surgery, but you can drink clear fluids up to two hours beforehand.
Capito. Prendo un farmaco per il sangue, il warfarin. Devo interromperlo prima dell'operazione?
Yes, you'll need to stop warfarin five days before surgery. Your GP will advise if you need a bridging medication instead.
Capisco. E per l'anestesia, sarà generale o locale? Ho un po' di paura.
It will be a general anaesthetic. The anaesthetist will visit you tomorrow morning to discuss the procedure and answer your concerns.
Grazie. Dopo l'intervento, avrò molto dolore? E quanto tempo dovrò restare in ospedale?
You'll have some discomfort, managed with regular pain relief. Most patients stay only one night, unless there are complications requiring longer observation.
Capisco. Dopo le dimissioni, posso guidare da sola per tornare a casa?
No, you cannot drive or operate machinery for twenty-four hours after the anaesthetic. Please arrange for someone to collect you from the hospital.
Perfetto, mia figlia verrà a prendermi. Grazie mille per tutte le informazioni, è stata molto gentile.

How the test works
Practice dialogue written to the CCL specification (two speakers, segments of 35 words or fewer, about 300 words). It is a practice text, not a NAATI test paper, and the AI score is this site's estimate, not a NAATI result. All Italian dialogues · All languages
