Pre-Surgery Consultation for Breast Reconstruction
Plastic Surgeon (speaking English) and Patient (speaking Afrikaans) talk through “Pre-Surgery Consultation for Breast Reconstruction”. You interpret both ways — English into Afrikaans, and Afrikaans into English — one segment at a time, exactly as in the CCL test.

Thanks for coming in today, Mrs Botha. Before we confirm your reconstruction surgery date, I need to check carefully how you've been feeling since your last scan.
Dankie doktor.
That's understandable. The surgery is scheduled for six weeks from now at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and recovery usually takes about four to six weeks.
Yes, we'll prescribe pain relief, but only if you don't have any allergies to opioids. Have you had reactions to medication before?
You'll likely stay three nights after surgery for monitoring, and only longer if there are any complications with healing or infection.
Drie nagte klink na 'n lang tyd. Ek werk voltyds by 'n rekeningkantoor en wonder hoeveel verlof ek sal moet neem.
I'll give you a medical certificate for four weeks off work, though you may need extra time if the wound heals slowly.
The scars usually fade significantly within about twelve months, and we'll check your healing progress at the two-week follow-up appointment next Thursday.
Ek sal beslis by die afspraak volgende Donderdag opdaag.
Terms in this dialogue that cost marks
CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.
- medical certificateSê 'mediese sertifikaat' — dit word direk so verstaan in Afrikaans.
Practise it
Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The free daily dialogue on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.

How the test works
Practice dialogue written to the CCL specification (two speakers, segments of 35 words or fewer, about 300 words). It is a practice text, not a NAATI test paper, and the AI score is this site's estimate, not a NAATI result. All Afrikaans dialogues · All languages
