Mr. Vogel, thanks for coming in early this morning — let's go through exactly what to expect before your knee replacement at Box Hill Hospital on Thursday.
Of course, ask me anything. First, you must not eat any solid food after midnight the night before surgery — only clear fluids are allowed until 6am.
Take your blood pressure tablets with a small sip of water at 6am, but you must skip your diabetes medication entirely that morning.
The anaesthetist will discuss all the options with you tomorrow morning, but for a knee replacement, spinal anaesthesia is often preferred over full general anaesthesia.
The surgery itself takes about ninety minutes, and most patients stay in hospital for three to four nights afterwards for observation and physiotherapy.
Verstanden.
You'll still need to sign a written consent form when you arrive on Thursday, even if you've already agreed verbally with me today.
