Thanks for coming in, Mrs. Jansen. The scan results are back, and I'd like to discuss how your father's memory has changed since his last appointment.
Het gaat niet goed, hij is de laatste maanden veel vergeetachtiger geworden. Vorige week is hij verdwaald op weg naar de supermarkt, en hij stelt steeds dezelfde vragen.
The MRI shows mild shrinkage in the brain's outer layer, consistent with early Alzheimer's disease. We'd like to start medication and monitor him closely.
Wat voor behandeling stelt u voor? Mijn moeder maakt zich zorgen over bijwerkingen, vooral omdat hij ook bloeddrukmedicijnen gebruikt.
We'll start donepezil at a low dose and review him in six weeks at the memory clinic here at Concord Repatriation General Hospital.
Mag hij nog autorijden? Hij rijdt al vijftig jaar en het zou hem enorm raken als dat niet meer kan.
Unfortunately he cannot keep driving until an occupational therapist completes a driving assessment. It's for his safety and everyone else's on the road.
Hij zal het vreselijk vinden om te stoppen met rijden. Hoe vertellen we hem dat zonder dat hij boos wordt of zich waardeloos voelt?
I'd suggest contacting Dementia Australia's helpline for support, and applying for a home care package through My Aged Care to help him stay home safely.
Hoe vragen we dat zorgpakket aan, en kost het veel? We willen niet dat hij lang moet wachten voordat er hulp komt.
You apply online through My Aged Care, there's no fee for the initial assessment, though the waiting list currently runs about eight weeks.
