Thanks for coming in, Mr. de Groot. Your initial HIV screening test came back reactive, so we need a confirmatory test before we can be certain.
O nee, wat betekent dat precies, reactief? Betekent dat dat ik HIV heb, of moet er nog iets getest worden?
A reactive result isn't a diagnosis—it just means we need a more specific blood test at Prince of Wales Hospital to confirm things.
Oké, dat is een beetje geruststellend. Hoelang duurt het voordat ik de definitieve uitslag krijg?
Turnaround varies, but confirmatory results usually come back within about a week to ten days, depending on the lab's workload.
Gelukkig, dat is niet te lang wachten. Moet ik mijn partner vertellen over deze test, ook al weet ik de uitslag nog niet zeker?
That's an important question. Under the NSW Public Health Act, there are situations where partners may need to be informed, but it depends on your circumstances.
