Before your knee replacement surgery at Liverpool Hospital on Thursday morning, I need to confirm a few important details with you now, is that alright?
You must not eat any solid food after midnight the night before your surgery, because eating could delay or cancel the operation entirely.
You may sip small amounts of clear water until two hours before your arrival time, but please avoid anything after that point.
Please stop taking your aspirin five full days before the surgery date, unless your cardiologist specifically advises you to keep taking it.
You cannot drive yourself home after the anaesthetic wears off, so someone reliable must collect you and remain with you overnight at home.
Good, that's settled then. Please arrive at seven thirty in the morning, and sign this consent form before we take you to theatre.
