Under each segment: a model interpretation, the information points an examiner checks, and the easiest thing to miss. Try the segment yourself first, then open it. The model is one good way to say it; other wordings that keep every point score just as well.

Ms Orlova, let's go through your first weeks together. Today we'll cover Medicare, Centrelink, a bank account and school for your daughter.

  • Medicare and Centrelink
  • Bank account
  • School for her daughter

Easy to miss: Keep all four topics, including school for the daughter.

SEGMENT 2 · RUSSIAN · 15 WORDS

Хорошо, спасибо. Я немного растерялась, здесь для меня всё ново. С чего мы начнём?

Model answer and marking points

All right, thank you. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed; everything here is new to me. Where shall we start?

What an examiner checks here:

  • Agrees and thanks the speaker
  • Feels a little overwhelmed

  • question: where will they start?

Easy to miss: Keep the final sentence as a question.

First, Medicare. Without a card, you may pay full price to see a doctor. We'll apply at the Services Australia centre Wednesday at half past nine. Bring your passport.

Model answer and marking points

Начнём с Medicare. Без карты вам, возможно, придётся заплатить полную стоимость приёма у врача. Мы подадим заявление в центре Services Australia в среду в половине десятого утра. Возьмите с собой паспорт.

What an examiner checks here:

  • Medicare first
  • Without a card, may pay full price to see a doctor
  • Apply at a Services Australia centre
  • Wednesday
  • 9:30 am
  • Bring passport

Easy to miss: Half past nine means 9:30, and paying full price is a possibility, not a certainty.

SEGMENT 4 · RUSSIAN · 17 WORDS
New arrival

А если я что-нибудь забуду? Паспорт у меня есть, а вот письмо о визе, кажется, осталось дома.

Model answer and marking points

What if I forget something? I have my passport, but I think I left the visa letter at home.

What an examiner checks here:

  • question: what if she forgets something?
  • Has her passport
  • Thinks the visa letter was left at home

Easy to miss: She is uncertain whether the visa letter is at home.

SEGMENT 5 · ENGLISH · 31 WORDS
Settlement caseworker

Please bring the visa letter; Medicare may ask for it. If you can't find it, tell me. Next, Centrelink: you'll upload documents in myGov, so we'll set up your account first.

Model answer and marking points

Пожалуйста, возьмите с собой письмо о визе: его могут попросить при оформлении Medicare. Если не сможете его найти, скажите мне. Теперь о Centrelink: вы будете загружать документы через myGov, поэтому сначала мы создадим вам учётную запись.

What an examiner checks here:

  • Bring visa letter
  • Medicare may request it
  • Tell the speaker if unable to find it
  • Centrelink next
  • Upload documents through myGov
  • Set up myGov account first

Easy to miss: The myGov account must be set up before uploading documents.

SEGMENT 6 · RUSSIAN · 14 WORDS
New arrival

Ясно, письмо поищу. А банковский счёт я смогу открыть сама, или мне понадобится помощь?

Model answer and marking points

I see. I'll look for the letter. Will I be able to open a bank account myself, or will I need help?

What an examiner checks here:

  • Understands
  • Will look for the letter
  • question: can she open a bank account herself?
  • question: will she need help?

Easy to miss: She asks whether she can open the account herself; she does not say she needs help.

SEGMENT 7 · ENGLISH · 29 WORDS
Settlement caseworker

You can open an account yourself, but I'll come to help next week. Never share your PIN or myGov password; a real bank won't ask for it by phone.

Model answer and marking points

Вы можете открыть счёт самостоятельно, но на следующей неделе я пойду с вами, чтобы помочь. Никогда никому не сообщайте свой ПИН-код или пароль от myGov: настоящий банк не станет запрашивать их по телефону.

What an examiner checks here:

  • Can open an account herself
  • Speaker will accompany her to help
  • Next week
  • Never share PIN
  • Never share myGov password
  • A real bank will not request these by phone

Easy to miss: Keep the prohibition on sharing both the PIN and the myGov password.

New arrival

Поняла, никому не скажу. А моя дочь, ей пятнадцать лет, уже две недели сидит дома. Когда она сможет пойти в школу?

Model answer and marking points

I understand. I won't tell anyone. My daughter is fifteen, and she's already been at home for two weeks. When will she be able to start school?

What an examiner checks here:

  • Understands and will not tell anyone
  • Daughter is fifteen
  • Daughter has been at home for two weeks already
  • question: when can her daughter start school?

Easy to miss: Do not confuse the daughter's age of fifteen with the two weeks she has spent at home.

SEGMENT 9 · ENGLISH · 24 WORDS
Settlement caseworker

We'll enrol her at a local public high school. The school must confirm her start date once enrolment is arranged. I'll call them Monday.

Model answer and marking points

Мы запишем её в местную государственную среднюю школу. Когда зачисление будет оформлено, школа должна подтвердить дату начала занятий для вашей дочери. Я позвоню туда в понедельник.

What an examiner checks here:

  • Enrol daughter at a local public high school
  • School must confirm her start date
  • Confirmation once enrolment is arranged
  • Speaker will call the school Monday

Easy to miss: Monday is the day of the phone call, not the daughter's confirmed school start date.

What an examiner checks here:

  • Thanks the speaker warmly
  • Feels more at ease now
  • Will be ready Wednesday
  • 9:30
  • Will definitely bring visa letter

Easy to miss: Половина десятого means 9:30, not 10:30.

Terms in this dialogue that cost marks

CCL is marked on information transferred. These Australian terms have no direct word in most test languages — get one wrong and the segment's information is gone.

Practise it

Reading a transcript is not interpreting. The practice room on this site plays each segment at native speed, records you, and marks the information you transferred against the same categories examiners use — omissions, distortions, insertions — so you know where the marks went.
