Mandarin financial vocabulary

These notes come from this language’s vocabulary list. Terms belong to this topic’s vocabulary category or occur in the dialogues above. Renderings are study aids.

Centrelink

直接保留英文说“Centrelink”,因为这是专有机构名称。

有考生把它泛泛译成“社保局”或“福利局”,这样虽然大意接近,但专有名词按规则应保留英文,翻译会被认为不准确。

myGov

直接保留英文说“myGov”,因为这是专有平台名称。

有考生把它翻译成“我的政府”或“政府网站”,这是逐字翻译,丢失了它作为特定官方平台名称的身份,应保留原文。

Services Australia

保留英文名称 Services Australia。

有人直译成“澳大利亚服务局”或和Centrelink混用为同一个词,丢失了这是统一管理多个福利系统的上级机构这一信息。

Tax file number

译为“税号”或说明“税务档案号码”,也可保留英文缩写TFN并解释。

考生常与ABN(企业注册号)混用,或译成“身份证号”,这会造成听者以为是身份证件号码,性质完全不同。

Age Pension

建议译为“养老金”,可加注保留官方名称“Age Pension”。

常见错误译成“退休金”,让人误以为是雇主或个人退休储蓄金(如superannuation),而非政府福利。

Super

可保留英文说“super”,并补充一句“也就是退休金”帮助考官理解。

常被直接译成“养老金”,与政府发放的Age Pension(养老金/退休金福利)混淆,二者性质完全不同。

Hardship arrangement

说“困难还款安排”,或用一句话解释:“因经济困难而协商的特别还款计划”。

常被直译成“艰难安排”让人不知所指,也容易与普通的“分期付款”混淆,丢失“因经济困难而特批”的关键信息。

Details to keep in your interpretation

These examples come from this topic’s practice answers. Compare the source, the detail to retain and the model interpretation.

Asking a Super Fund About Accessing Super

Asking a Super Fund About Accessing Super · segment 1

Welcome to our Hornsby office, Mr Gao. Please take a seat. How can I help you with your super today?

Keep the place name Hornsby and keep the closing line as a question, not a statement.

Compare the model interpretation

高先生,欢迎来到我们Hornsby办公室,请坐。今天您的退休金方面有什么我可以帮您的?

Home Loan Pre-Approval Meeting

Home Loan Pre-Approval Meeting · segment 1

Please take a seat, Ms Zhou. Pre-approval means a lender indicates how much it may lend you. It is not final, and it can change if your finances change.

'May lend' is tentative, not a promise; and the 'not final' negation must be kept, not softened into 'basically approved'.

Compare the model interpretation

周女士,请坐。预批的意思是,贷款机构表示它可能借给你多少钱。这不是最终决定,如果你的财务状况有变化,它也会跟着变。

Loan Hardship Request

Loan Hardship Request · segment 1

Good morning. I understand you would like to talk about hardship options for your home loan. Can you tell me what has changed?

Keep the closing question as a question, and render 'hardship options' as 困难援助/还款困难方案, not just '困难'.

Compare the model interpretation

早上好。我了解到您想谈一谈您房贷的困难援助方案。能告诉我情况有什么变化吗?
