Thanks for coming in, Mr. Baumgartner. Dr. Reyes wants to examine your left eye before we book the cataract surgery here at Flinders Medical Centre.
Vielen Dank für die Einladung. Mein linkes Auge ist in den letzten Wochen sehr verschwommen geworden, vor allem abends beim Fernsehen und beim Autofahren.
I see. Do you also notice glare or halos around lights at night, or difficulty reading small print during the day?
Ja, genau. Wenn ich nachts Auto fahre, sehe ich helle Ringe um die Scheinwerfer, und ich kann die Zeitung kaum noch lesen.
That fits with cataract progression. We'd operate on one eye at a time, as day surgery, using local anaesthetic drops rather than a general anaesthetic.
Das beruhigt mich. Ich hatte Angst vor einer Vollnarkose, weil ich vor Jahren schlecht darauf reagiert habe.
That's understandable, but you won't need a general anaesthetic unless there are unusual complications. The whole procedure usually takes about twenty minutes.
Gut zu wissen. Wie lange dauert die Erholung, und wann darf ich wieder selbst Auto fahren?
You can't drive for twenty-four hours afterwards, and we'll see you again in one week to check healing and your new vision.
