Medical certificate
Dịch là 'giấy chứng nhận y tế' hoặc 'giấy xác nhận bệnh của bác sĩ'.
Một số người dịch thành 'đơn thuốc' hoặc 'giấy khám bệnh', làm sai chức năng vì đây là giấy xác nhận tình trạng sức khỏe, không phải đơn thuốc hay kết quả khám.
Waiting list
Dịch là 'danh sách chờ'.
Có người dịch thành 'hàng chờ' một cách quá thông tục hoặc nhầm với 'waiting period' (thời gian chờ); cần phân biệt đây là danh sách, không phải khoảng thời gian.
TAFE
Giữ nguyên tên "TAFE" bằng tiếng Anh.
Có người dịch thành "trường đại học" hoặc "trường trung cấp", làm lệch cấp học vì TAFE là hệ thống riêng, không tương đương đại học hay trung học.
Public school
Dịch là "trường công lập" hoặc "trường công".
Có người dịch thành "trường nhà nước" nghe hơi cứng hoặc lẫn với "trường quốc lập" ở một số nước khác, dễ gây hiểu sai hệ thống giáo dục Úc.
VET
Giữ nguyên "VET" hoặc dịch là "giáo dục nghề".
Do đồng âm, candidate thường dịch thành "bác sĩ thú y" (veterinarian) — hoàn toàn sai nghĩa trong ngữ cảnh giáo dục.
NAPLAN
Giữ nguyên viết tắt 'NAPLAN' vì đây là tên chương trình đánh giá quốc gia, có thể thêm giải thích ngắn 'bài kiểm tra năng lực toàn quốc'.
Không nên dịch thành 'kỳ thi tốt nghiệp' hay 'thi chuyển cấp' - NAPLAN chỉ là bài đánh giá năng lực định kỳ, không phải kỳ thi quyết định lên lớp hay tốt nghiệp.
Prep
Dịch là 'lớp mẫu giáo chuẩn bị vào lớp 1' hoặc giữ nguyên 'lớp Prep' nếu ngữ cảnh cho phép, vì không có lớp tương đương chính xác trong hệ thống Việt Nam.
Nhiều người dịch thành 'mẫu giáo' (kindergarten) thông thường, nhưng Prep là năm học chính thức đầu tiên trong hệ thống trường tiểu học Úc, khác với mẫu giáo trước đó.
HSC
Giữ nguyên viết tắt 'HSC' hoặc dịch là 'bằng tốt nghiệp trung học phổ thông bang NSW'.
Không nên dịch chung chung thành 'tốt nghiệp cấp 3' vì mỗi bang ở Úc có tên kỳ thi khác nhau (VCE ở Victoria, QCE ở Queensland...) - dịch mất tên riêng sẽ không chính xác về mặt thông tin thi cử.
Kindergarten
Dịch là 'lớp Mẫu giáo (năm đầu tiểu học)' hoặc giữ nguyên 'Kindergarten' kèm chú thích ngắn 'lớp đầu cấp tiểu học' tùy ngữ cảnh bang.
Lỗi rất phổ biến: dịch thẳng thành 'mẫu giáo' như nghĩa thông thường - nhưng ở NSW, Kindergarten là năm học chính thức đầu tiên của tiểu học, không phải bậc mầm non trước đó.
Scholarship
Dịch là 'học bổng' — thuật ngữ này hoàn toàn tương đương.
Không có lỗi thường gặp lớn, nhưng cần tránh dịch thành 'trợ cấp' (allowance) chung, vì học bổng gắn với thành tích hoặc tiêu chí xét chọn cụ thể.
Year 12
Dịch là 'lớp 12' — tương đương với hệ thống giáo dục Việt Nam.
Không nhiều lỗi lớn, nhưng cần tránh dịch thành 'tốt nghiệp trung học' chung mà không nêu rõ đây là lớp học cụ thể, vì ngữ cảnh thi có thể cần nói rõ 'năm học lớp 12'.
