Waiting list

'Waiting list' என்ற ஆங்கில வார்த்தையை அப்படியே சொல்லலாம், அல்லது 'காத்திருப்புப் பட்டியல்' என்று சொல்லலாம்.

இதை 'பட்டியல்' என்று மட்டும் சொல்வது தவறு, ஏனெனில் இது வெறும் பெயர்ப்பட்டியல் இல்லை, சிகிச்சைக்காக காத்திருக்கும் வரிசையை குறிக்கிறது.

Asthma action plan

'Asthma Action Plan' என்ற ஆங்கிலப் பெயரையே சொல்லலாம், அல்லது 'மருத்துவர் தந்த ஆஸ்துமா மேலாண்மை திட்ட ஆவணம்' என விளக்கவும்.

இதை 'பொது பள்ளி' என்று சொல்வது குழப்பத்தை ஏற்படுத்தும்; தமிழில் 'பொது' என்பது 'private' அல்லது 'community' என்ற பொருளில் தவறாக புரிந்துகொள்ளப்படலாம். சரியான சொல் 'அரசு பள்ளி' மட்டுமே, 'தனியார் பள்ளி'யுடன் குழப்பக்கூடாது.

VET

'VET' என்ற சுருக்கத்தையே சொல்லி, தேவைப்பட்டால் 'தொழில்முறை கல்வி மற்றும் பயிற்சி (Vocational Education and Training)' என்று விளக்கவும்.

பெரும்பாலான தேர்வர்கள் இதை 'கால்நடை மருத்துவர்' (veterinarian) என்று தவறாக மொழிபெயர்த்து முழு பொருளையும் தவறாக்குகிறார்கள்; இது கல்வித் துறை சூழலில் வேறு பொருள்.

NAPLAN

NAPLAN என்ற ஆங்கிலச் சொல்லை அப்படியே சொல்லலாம்; தேவைப்பட்டால் 'தேசிய அளவிலான பள்ளி மதிப்பீட்டுத் தேர்வு' என விளக்கலாம்.

இதை வெறும் 'பொது தேர்வு' அல்லது 'university entrance exam' போன்ற தேர்வுகளுடன் குழப்பிவிடக்கூடாது; NAPLAN என்பது தேர்ச்சி/தோல்வி தேர்வு அல்ல, மதிப்பீட்டுத் திட்டம்.

Prep

'Prep' என்ற ஆங்கில வார்த்தையை அப்படியே சொல்லலாம், தேவைப்பட்டால் 'பள்ளியில் முதல் ஆண்டு படிப்பு நிலை (Prep)' என்று சுருக்கமாக விளக்கலாம்.

'Prep' ஐ 'முன்பள்ளி' அல்லது 'nursery' என்று மொழிபெயர்ப்பது தவறு, ஏனெனில் prep என்பது முறையான பள்ளி அமைப்பின் ஒரு பகுதி, playschool அல்ல.

HSC

"HSC" என்ற சுருக்கத்தையே ஆங்கிலத்தில் சொல்லலாம், தேவைப்பட்டால் "உயர்நிலைப் பள்ளி இறுதிச் சான்றிதழ்" என்று விளக்கலாம்.

இதை பொதுவாக "பட்டப்படிப்பு சான்றிதழ்" அல்லது இந்திய 12ஆம் வகுப்பு தேர்வுக்கு சமமாக நேரடியாக மொழிபெயர்ப்பது தவறு, ஏனெனில் HSC என்பது NSW மாநிலத்திற்கே உரிய குறிப்பிட்ட அமைப்பு.

Kindergarten

"Kindergarten" என்ற ஆங்கிலப் பெயரையே சொல்லலாம், அல்லது "பள்ளியின் முதலாம் ஆண்டு" என்று விளக்கலாம்.

Scholarship

இதை 'கடன்' (loan) என்று மொழிபெயர்ப்பது பெரிய தவறு; scholarship திருப்பிச் செலுத்த வேண்டியதில்லை, ஆனால் கடன் திருப்பிச் செலுத்த வேண்டும்.

Year 12

'Year 12' என்று ஆங்கிலத்திலேயே சொல்லலாம், அல்லது 'பன்னிரண்டாம் வகுப்பு' என்று சொல்லலாம்.
