Mandarin consumer affairs vocabulary

These notes come from this language’s vocabulary list. Terms belong to this topic’s vocabulary category or occur in the dialogues above. Renderings are study aids.

Excess

Fair Trading

Australian Consumer Law

NRMA Insurance

Private health insurance

Ombudsman

Membership costs

Financial hardship

Afterpay

Comprehensive insurance

Third party

ACCC

BPAY

Cooling-off period

Direct debit

Hardship arrangement

Details to keep in your interpretation

These examples come from this topic’s practice answers. Compare the source, the detail to retain and the model interpretation.

Numbers and amounts: keep instalments, payment periods and the total aligned

Electricity Bill Payment Plan · segment 5

If you pay $42 each fortnight for five fortnights, that clears the full $210 overdue balance exactly, with the first payment due this Friday.

Three numbers to keep straight: $42, five fortnights, $210; plus the first payment is due this Friday, not next.

Compare the model interpretation

Formal Complaint Against an Electrician

Formal Complaint Against an Electrician · segment 1

I have your notes here about the electrician's work. Thanks for coming in—could you walk me through exactly what happened at your home?

"Walk me through" is a request for a detailed account; keep it as a question, not a statement.

Compare the model interpretation

Mobile Plan Billing Dispute

Mobile Plan Billing Dispute · segment 1

Customer service, billing department speaking, thank you for calling today. I have your account open here. Could you tell me exactly what looks incorrect on your latest mobile phone bill?

Keep the request about the latest bill as a question.

Compare the model interpretation
